Mary J. (Kohls) Portz

Mary Jean (Kohls) Portz, age 80, of Ripon, WI passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Barrett House in Markesan, WI.

Mary was born in Ripon on October 13, 1944, daughter of George and Doris (Johnson) Kohls. She graduated from Rosendale High School. In 1976 she married Frederick “Fritz" Portz in Clearwater, FL, and he passed away in 2002. Mary worked in the payroll department of a records storage and management company in Phoenix, AZ, where her and Fritz moved after living in Minocqua, WI for about 10 years. After Fritz passed away Mary moved back to Ripon and was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ. In her free time she enjoyed crafting, crocheting, sewing and cooking. 

Mary is survived by her sisters, Jean (Robert) Bahn of Berlin, WI, Joan (Richard) Volkman of Mercedes, TX, Luann Potratz of Belleville, WI, Susan Peachy of El Dorado, AR, Nancy (Robert) Fowler of Ripon, WI, and Kathleen Robinson of Brighton, CO; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Doris Kohls; beloved husband, Frederick “Fritz” Portz; a brother, David Kohls; brothers-in-law, Lee Potratz, Steve Peachy, and Keefe Robinson; sister-in-law, Diane Kohls; and a nephew, Christopher Kohls.

Per Mary’s wishes no funeral services will be held.
