Melvin N. Baneck, 85, of Ripon, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Berlin Memorial Hospital, Berlin, WI.
Melvin was born on June 17, 1924, in the Town of Hamburg, WI, the son of Edwin and Emma (Wendt) Baneck. He graduated from Athens High School in Athens, WI and in 1942; Melvin married Angeline Penn in St. Stevens Lutheran Church in Wausau, WI. He was a farmer and sold seed for 35 years. Melvin was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickett. He was on the church council, and a charter member of Pickett Lions Club and past president.
Survivors include his wife Angeline of Ripon, WI; one son, James (Joanne) Baneck of Winneconne, WI; one daughter, Katherine (Gary) Gitzel of Ripon, WI; six grandchildren, Douglas (Amanda) Baneck, Kevin (JoAnn) Baneck, Gregory (Kelli) Baneck, Sabrina Novak, Nichole Sullivan, and Rhonda (Greg) Verhegan; five great-grandchildren, Eric Novak, Brooke, Trent, Mackenzie and Addison Baneck. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen; and a sister-in-law, Lois.
Visitation for Melvin Baneck will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010, from 4 – 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon and again on Saturday, March 6, 2010, from 9:30 – 10:30 am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickett, WI.
Funeral Service for Melvin Baneck will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 10:30 am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickett. Pastor Russell W. Kloehn will officiate. Interment will follow at Liberty Prairie Cemetery in the Town of Utica. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the elevator fund at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 502 Cty. Rd M Pickett, WI 54964.
