Mildred Pionke, age 97, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Fountain View Care Center, with family by her side.
She was born April 11, 1916, in Rush Lake, the daughter of William and Dora (Priest) Hilsberg. Mildred graduated from Berlin High School. On April 21, 1937, she was united in marriage to John C. Pionke in Arpin, WI. Together, she and John had twelve children and Mildred found great joy in being a homemaker. Mildred and John wintered in Florida where they enjoyed shelling. They also enjoyed square dancing, and Mildred had a love and passion for flowers, gardening, embroidery, and sewing. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on East Fond du Lac St. in Ripon where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Sodality.
Survivors include her children; Mary Jean (Robert) Florek of Marquette, MI, Charles (Rosemary) Pionke of Rosendale, WI, Charlotte Yearwood of Oshkosh, WI, Ethel Zimmerman of Kansas City, MO, Dennis (Jean) Pionke of Portage, WI, Darwin (Linda) Pionke of Weyauwega, WI, Patricia (Al) Richter of North Fond du Lac, WI, John (Phyllis) Pionke of Rosendale, WI, Judith Wyant of North Fond du Lac, WI and Diane (Herman) Berndt of Pickett, WI; 28 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mildred is one sister, Lois Luy of Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, two sons; James and Kenneth Pionke, two sisters; Grace Gatzke and Effie Wendt, one brother, Lester, a daughter-in-law, Debra Pionke; a son-in-law, Dwight Zimmerman; three brothers-in-law, Jack Gatzke, George Luy and Garrett Wendt; and one sister-in-law, Jean Hilsberg.
Visitation for Mildred Pionke will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014, from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. with Rosary to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Drive, Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Saturday, February 1, 2014, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 415 E. Fond du Lac Street, Ripon, WI 54971.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred Pionke will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on E. Fond du Lac Street, Ripon. Reverend Robert A. Fictum will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
