Mildred Doris Smith (Millie), age 93, died on June 28, 2016. She was born on April 30, 1923, to Frank and Clara (Weckwerth) Zimmerman in the Town of Brooklyn, Green Lake County. She was baptized and confirmed at, and was a lifetime member of, Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Green Lake. On June 2, 1945, she married the love of her life, Roger Herman Smith. They enjoyed 54 years together until his death on March 8, 1999.
Millie enjoyed everyone she met and had the unique ability to make people feel accepted and special. She was an example for her children and grandchildren of how to be kind, non-judgmental, and gracious in all situations.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Cheri (Gordon) Smith of Green Lake; son, Ronald (Paulette) Smith of Lodi, WI; four grandchildren Rodney (Jennifer) Smith of Green Lake, Erica (Joe) Kroncke of Neenah, WI, Bryant (Sien) Smith of Columbia, SC, and Jared (Kari) Smith of Prairie du Sac, WI; six great grandchildren Jack, Mackenzie, Madison, MaKayla, Mylah, and Hazel; niece, Lora Gray of Minneapolis, MN; niece, Shelley (Grant) Boulanger of St. Paul, MN, and their children Amaya and Alexander. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger; sister, Gladys Gray; brother-in-law, Robert Gray; brother-in-law, Harold Smith; and special friends.
Visitation for Millie will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016, from 4 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Friday, July 1, 2016, from 10 11:00 am at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 440 Lake St., Green Lake, WI 54941.
Funeral Service for Millie will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016, at 11:00 am at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Green Lake. Reverend Rodney E. Dietsche will officiate. Interment will follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake. Memorials may be made to Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church (School Fund), 440 Lake Street, Green Lake 54941 or to the Markesan Resident Home, 1130 N. Margaret Street, Markesan, WI 53946.
The family thanks the staff at the Markesan Resident Home for their extraordinary and loving care of Millie during her entire seven years in residence but especially for the special attention she received these past few months. Also, the area WELS pastors who diligently conducted weekly services at the resident home provided ever-appreciated spiritual support. Millie received attentive care from a number of medical professionals, in particular Drs. Atassi, Nelsen, Williams, and Kollenberg. Lastly, Millies life was deeply enriched by the visits, phone calls, cards, and letters from her many cherished friends.
