Milton Flanagan

Milton F. Flanagan, age 79, of Oshkosh, passed away December 23, 1994, at Bethel Home of Oshkosh.

He was born May 22, 1915, in Oshkosh, a son of the late William and Elizabeth Brueske Flanagan of Pickett. He graduated from Oshkosh High School and UW-Oshkosh. On August 14, 1941, he married Dorothy Jones. He was a teacher and principal for two years and was a veteran of WWII. During the war he taught radio sending and receiving at Truax Field in Madison. When the war ceased, he followed General McArthur into Japan as a sergeant in the Counter Intelligence Corps. When he returned to civilian life, Milton was a claims adjustor, later becoming superintendent of claims at the Oshkosh office of the Commercial Union Ins. Co.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy J. Flanagan of Oshkosh; one son, Brian (Beatrice) Flanagan of Wisconsin Rapids; one daughter, Erin Werth of Neenah; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Kelly Bea and Michael Flanagan, all of Wisconsin Rapids. He is further survived by seven brothers, W. Donald (Lorraine) Flanagan of Chippewa Falls, Dr. Carroll (Katherine) Flanagan of Whitewater, Leon (Dorothy M.) Flanagan of Mission, TX, Leslie (Phyllis) Flanagan of Waukau, Merle (Margaret Ann) Flanagan of Redgranite, D. John (Margaret) Flanagan Redgranite and Clayton (Florine) Flanagan of Mission, TX; four sisters, Betty (Rudy) Freund of Waukau, Bonnie Brayton of Oshkosh, Elaine (Jim) Brisky of Cedarburg and Jeanette (Bob) Lotz of Los Angeles, CA; two aunts, Leone (Arthur) Flanagan of Oshkosh and Esther (Edwin) Anderson of Lombard, IL and many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Robert Werth and brother, Robert Flanagan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 11 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ripon where he was a member. Reverend John A. Schmitz will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Omro Junction Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 10 am until the time of the service at the church. A memorial has been established for Bethel Home or memorial contributions may be designated for masses at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
