Milton Oakes

Milton V. Oakes, 84, of 837 Ransom St, Ripon, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, January 19, 2005, at Ripon Medical Center.

He was born December 25, 1920, in Racine, a son to Milton and Lena (Schultz) Oakes. He attended Ripon High School. On November 22, 1942, he married Madonna
Zimdars. Milton welded submarines at the Manitowoc Ship Yards before serving in the Navy during WWII from 1944-46. He again served his country in Korea from 1950-52. He welded for the Soo Line Railroad for 30 years, taught welding at Fond du Lac Vocational School, and until retiring, welded gas lines for Eckstein Plumbing in Ripon. For many years, Milton welded metal sculptures for the Lester Schwartz Gallery. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, the Ripon V.F.W. and Ripon Lions, volunteered at Ripon Medical Center and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and handyman to anyone who called.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; 1 daughter, Donna (Russell) Morgan of Oconomowoc; 3 sons, Dennis (Barbara) Oakes of Ripon, Michael (Jackie) Oakes of Ripon, and Chris (Deborah) Oakes of Marengo, IL; 1 daughter-in-law, Judy Hochrein of Berlin; 9 grandchildren, Shawn (Stacey), Joshua, Andrew, Amanda, Jeremy, Heidi, Tara, Kyle, and David; 2 great-grandchildren, Brett and Brooke; 1 brother, Ralph (Karen) Oakes of Manitowoc; and 2 sisters, Shirley (Rhinhold) Malzhan of Waupaca and Jeanette (Darrell) Brey of Pickett. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Jeffrey Oakes; parents; and 1 brother, Gregory.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon with Rev. Neil S. Wilson officiating. Friends may call at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon on Friday, January 21, 2005, from 4-7 p.m., followed by a V.F.W. Service at 7 p.m. and a Lions Service 7:15 p.m. Visitation will also be at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Inurnment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. A memorial has been established
