Myra Whitney

Myra Elizabeth Whitney, age 95, of the Town of Ripon, WI, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Parkview Care Center.

She was born September 3, 1903, in the Town of St. Marie, Green Lake County, (Princeton), a daughter of Orley and Mary Pratt Whiting. Myra moved to South Dakota with her family in 1909 and spent her early childhood there. In 1926, she returned to Wisconsin where she worked as a housekeeper and dress maker for several families. She married Walter Whitney on August 18, 1930, and then moved to the rural Ripon area where they farmed for over 50 years. She was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon.

Survivors include one son, Merlin Whitney and his wife, Donna of Ripon; two daughters, Ora Jean Voskuil and her husband, Merle of Waupun; and Marlys Whitney of Ripon; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; also two step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Lura Whitney; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband Walter in October 1994, two brothers, Mason Whiting and Alvin Whiting and one sister, Lois Ketcham, two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Immanuel United Methodist Church. Reverend David Busker will officiate. Burial will be at Rosendale Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5:00 until 8:00 pm on Monday at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon and at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 pm until the time of service. A memorial in her name has been established.
