Nelson Meilahn

June 3, 1911 — July 11, 2000

Nelson August Meilahn, age 89, of Pickett, WI, died Tuesdya, July 11, 2000, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon.

He was born June 3, 1911, in Town of Ripon, a son to the late Ernest and Pauline (Heiden) Meilahn. He received his education in Fisk and Oshkosh. On November 23, 1935, he married Gerylene O’Harrow. Nelson was founder and owner of the Oaks Farm Dairy for 23 years, and farmed in the Town of Utica and Rosendale. He was a Charter Member of the Ripon Lions, and member of Elo Evangelical Church and current member of Countryside Christian Church. Nelson served on the Board of Directors of the Pickett Community Center for 10 years, Pickett Co-op for 19 years and Rosendale Mutual Insurance Company for 21 years, and also served as Board Member of the Fletcher Rural School.

Survivors include his wife, Gerylene; two daughters, Karen (Clyde) Brey and Nancy Meilahn, and son, Michael (Jane) Meilahn, all of Pickett; and six grandchildren, Doug Brey of Benton Harbor, MI, Kia Brey of Cedar Rapids, IA, Abby Stark of Racine, Derrick Grahn of Chicago, IL, Jay Meilahn of Oshkosh, Genevieve (Phil) Krzysko of Green Lake, Bob Howell of Indianapolis, IN and Terry Howell of Darlington, IN. He is further survived by three great-grandchildren, Ericka, Andrew and Gavin Stark all f Racine; sister, Loretta Konrad of Pickett; and sister-in-law, Carole Meilahn of Oshkosh. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mavin Manuel and Myrtle Awers; and two brothers, Leonard and Wesley Meilahn.

Funeral service for Nelson A. Meilahn will be 3 pm Friday, July 14, 2000, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon with Pastor Gregory C. Decker officiating. Interment will be in Liberty Prairie Cemetery in the Town of Utica. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 – 8:00 pm and again on Friday from 2 pm until the time of the service, all at the funeral home. Memorials have been established.
