Nelson Mielka

January 27, 1911 — November 6, 1999

Nelson Franklin Mielka, 88, of Ripon, died Saturday evening November 6, 1999, at Markesan Residential Home in Markesan, after an extended illness.

On January 27, 1911, Nelson was born the son of Charles and Bertha (Yerk) Mielka in
Ripon. He graduated from Ripon High School and Ripon College where he received a BA in
History and was a member of Lambda Delta Alpha fraternity. Nelson served in the U.S. Army
Air Corp. during WWII as a Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in India and China as a
cryptographer in the 11th Bomb Squadron. He was Director of purchasing for Ripon Foods for
44 years, and was a representative to the National Biscuit and Cracker Association. In 1945,
Nelson married Margaret Smith, she passed away in 1956. In 1959, he married Florence
Duescher who passed away in 1998. Nelson was a member of lmmanuel United Methodist
Church and was on the Church’s board of Trustees. He was a Member of the Ripon Noon
Kiwanis Club and was on the Board of Directors. Mr. Mielka played the French horn in the
Edger Zabel’s Little Symphony, Ripon College R.O.T.C. Band, Green Lake County Band, Ripon
City Band, and the Fox Valley Symphony, and was manager of the Ripon City Band. He served
as the president of the Board of Directors of the Ripon United Fund and Secretary of the Ripon
Library Board.

Survivors include his children; Jennel Lampe of Woodstock, IL, Julie Mielka of Ripon,
and Joel Mielka of Spokane, WA, and one stepson Harold (Jane) Brooks of Harshaw, WI.
Grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, Alexander, Elizabeth, Ryan, and Karin survive Mr. Mielka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, his sister, Viola Mielka, a stepson, Richard
Brooks, and step-grandson, Rolland Brooks.

Funeral services for Nelson Mielka will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon with Pastors David A. Busker and Anthony Farina officiating. Friends may call at the Church on Wednesday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service, Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Ripon.


Memorials can be given to Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon in Mr. Mielka’s name.
