Pauline Surprise Tubbs, age 94, of 222 Hall Street, Ripon, passed away Friday, November 7, 2003, at her home.
Pauline was born July 13, 1909, in New York, a daughter of Joseph M. and Mary Olivina (Millette) Surprise. She was educated in Alburgh, VT and married Clarence Raymonds Tubbs on October 6, 1941. She resided in Alburgh and Ripon and was self employed as a chef. Pauline was a citizen of Alburgh VT, a member of St. Amadeus Catholic Church in Vermont where she was a member of the choir and was an organist. She also was a Town, County and State Historian. She presently attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Ripon.
Survivors include one daughter, Winifred Grant of Ripon; Grandchildren, Lara Grant and Theodore (Sara) Grant both of Ripon, Sara (Kris) Gould of Elkhorn, WI and Samantha (Manuel) Henriques of Hawaii; one great-granddaughter, Caledonia Rae Grant of Ripon; Sisters, Fredericka Patterson of NY, Catherine Valentine of CT and Theresa (Joe) Dragon of NC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Harold; four sisters, Esther, Helen, Natalie, and Bertha; one son-in-law, Alexander Grant; and one step-daughter, Betty Jean Gay.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Ripon with Father Robert A. Fictum officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Inurnment will take place at Alburgh, VT at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Agnes Hospice Hope.
