Peter W. Garbacz, 96, passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, December 7, 2014.
He was born on February 24, 1918, to parents Peter and Mary Garbacz and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He met his wife Lorraine in Chicago, joined the US Army on July 30, 1942, and married Lorraine on January 17, 1943.
He was father to 5 children, however in 1998, Pete was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Garbacz, a Markesan resident. Pete was survived by 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great- grandchildren, including his daughter, Kathy (David) Ginder, and sons, Ronald Garbacz, and Daniel (Susan Heuer) Garbacz.
Pete was a World War II US Army combat veteran, earning the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the world War II Victory Medal and of course a Good Conduct Medal during his combat service in the Philippines. He was also a lifetime member of Ripon Post 5278, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He retired from United Airlines in 1986 and he and Lorraine immediately moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Pete loved bingo, skating, swimming, music, travel, fishing, and especially bowling, he was a member of the United Airlines Bowling Team. He also loved to travel and had visited most of the US States with many trips to Hawaii, the US Virgin Islands, Bahama, Mexico, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, The Most Serene Republic of San Marino, and Italy.
Visitation for Peter W. Garbacz will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 10 11:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 218 Blossom St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Memorial Mass for Peter will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Reverend Robert A. Fictum will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon with Full Military Honors.
