Phebe W. Weston, age 85, of Markesan, WI, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 1992, at Berlin Memorial Hospital.
She was born on September 21, 1906, in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Thomas M Williams, D.D.S. and Lily (Horton) Williams. She married Allen F. Weston on September 1, 1934, in Rockford, IL. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1990.
She grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and attended Coe College for one year. She received her Bachelors in Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1928, and remained a life member of the University Alumni and Chi Omega. She taught math and sports in Nebraska before coming to Milwaukee where for 25 years she taught at Milwaukee Downer Seminary later called University School, where she was bestowed the Uhrig Teacher Award.
Mrs. Weston was the recreation director for seven years at Sherwood Forest Hotel and camp director for 23 years at Camp Robinhood, both in Green Lake. She also worked for nine years at Whispering Pines Camp in Mercer, and one year at Tower Ranch in Rhinelander. She was a member of the board of directors, Wisconsin Section of the American Camping Association, where she received the Acorn Award. Mrs. Weston was a secretary for the board of directors of the Green Lake Association, served as secretary and was on the board of directors of the D.A.R., a member of A.A.U.W., and the John Scott Horner Chapter.
Friends may call Friday, May 22, 1992, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 23, 1992, at 10:00 a.m. at the Green Lake Center Cemetery, Town of Green Lake. The Reverend Lawrence Janssen will officiate.
Memorials have been established in her name for the Cradle Society of Evanston, IL, the Ripon Chapter of A.A.U.W., the Ripon Chapter of D.A.R. and Berlin Hospital Home Care.
