Phyllis Wagner

Phyllis Mabel Wagner, age 86, of Berlin, reached out her hand and took the hand of Jesus on Saturday morning, October 4, 2008.

Phyllis was born on September 23, 1922, in Berlin, WI, Green Lake County, the youngest daughter of Albert and Ida Emma Rose (Polzin) Krause. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Berlin. Phyllis also was a student at St. John’s School and was a graduate of Berlin High School.
On December 26, 1949, she was married by Pastor Herbert A. Baker of St. John’s Lutheran Church to Glen Milton Wagner of Green Lake. Phyllis drove school bus for Alto and Markesan School district for many years. She later studied and became a Certified Nursing Assistant, where she was a faithful employee at Parkview Nursing Home until her retirement. She was also a 4-H knitting instructor, floor supervisor at Fairwater canning factory and baby-sitter for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Church, active in ladies aide until she moved to Alto, where she became involved at Pella Lutheran Church. Phyllis’s life long dream of owning her own country home came true in 1985, she moved with her family to Brandon, where she became a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. She retired at that time and spent many hours with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2007, she returned to Berlin to the family homestead. Phyllis was active at the Berlin Senior Center where she enjoyed playing sheep’s head, visiting her life long friend Henrietta Arnold, and picking raspberries in her yard. She resided here until her courageous battle with renal failure was lost.

Survivors include, daughters, Rebecca (Ralph) Meyer of Brandon, Rachel (Howard) Vande Kolk of Ripon, Ruth Respalje and special friend, Ken Peterson of Ripon; sister in laws, Jane Krause of Oshkosh, Lucille Krause of Beaver Dam, Myra Nitz of Green Lake; brother in law, Arnold Wagner of Green Lake; Seven grandchildren, Amanda Respalje, Oshkosh; Allison Respalje, Ripon, Abigail (Clint) Johnson, Ripon, Adam Respalje, Ripon, Glenn Vande Kolk, Ripon, Angela (John) Berry, Alto, Hilary Meyer, Brandon and two great-grandchildren, Alexzander and Ella Berry, Alto. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen on May 20, 1990, Brothers, Herbert Krause, Alfred Krause, and Edward Krause, Sister, Leone Krause, mother and father-in-law, sister-in-law Laura Dietzman, brothers-in-law John Dietzmen and Wilbur Nitz.

Phyllis was a devout Christian and loving wife and mother. She carved a Christian path in her life with the help of her strong faith in her Lord and taught her family how to do the same. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Visitation for Phyllis Wagner will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon and again on Thursday, October 9, 2008, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Brandon.

Funeral Service for Phyllis Wagner will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Brandon with Pastor Stuart Dornfeld officiating. Time of fellowship celebrating the life of Phyllis will follow the service in the parish hall with graveside services following where Phyllis will be laid to rest along side her parents, husband and sister at Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin, Wisconsin.
