Ralph George Emil Gitzel passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on September 12, 2016, at Fountain View nursing home in Ripon, WI, where he had been a resident for more than 7 years.
Ralph was born in Milwaukee on September 22, 1916, and was the eldest son of Karl and Matilda (Schlump) Gitzel. On March 21, 1941, he married the former Clara E. Feder. Mr. Gitzel was a farmer and also worked at Eldorado feed mill for many years, and retired at the age of 70. He was a member of Hillside Assembly of God Church. Ralph enjoyed gardening, fishing, and walking golf courses looking for golf balls. His greatest love aside from his family was his love of music, singing, and playing the piano.
Ralph is survived by his daughter, Donna (David) Harper of Madison; a son, Gary (Katherine) Gitzel of Ripon; a grandson Gregory Harper; a granddaughter Kara Harper; three step-granddaughters, Sabrina Novak, Nichole Sullivan, Rhonda Chier; four great-grandchildren, Cody, Alexis Harper, Eric Novak, Ella Verheygan; one brother, Daniel Gitzel of Waupun; one brother-in-law Darold Strege of Waupun; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Enos) Mantik of Ripon, Elaine Olson of Green Lake; and many nieces and nephews. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Carol, two brothers, three sisters, and one son-in-law.
Visitation for Ralph will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Assembly of God Church, 656 W. Oshkosh St, Ripon, WI.
Funeral Service for Ralph will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Reverend Erik Boulier and Rev Donald Deike officiating. Interment will follow at Bluffton Cemetery, Town of Brooklyn.
In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name.
