Ray Zellmer

Ray E. Zellmer, 91, of Maplecrest Manor on North Douglas Street in Ripon, died Sunday, November 12, 2006 at his home with his family at his side.

Ray was born on October 3, 1915 in Webster, Wisconsin the son of Charles and Clara (Voight) Zellmer. He spent the early part of his life in Harrington, Delaware where his parents were farmers. They moved to Ripon, Wisconsin, while he a was a teenager, and he attended the Ripon schools, than he worked for Speed Queen Company until his retirement in 1981 and remained in the area until his death. Ray served his country for five years in the U.S. Army as an M.P. in the 524th Battalion that served in Europe during WWII. Ray was selected as an honor guard during the time President Roosevelt inspected the shipyards in Oakland, CA. On August 15, 1942 he married Isabelle Giffey in Stockton, CA. Ray was an active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church for many years, serving on many different committees. He also taught Sunday School and was a Sunday School superintendent and a youth counselor. He served on the Ripon Credit Union, credit committee. Ray was a member of the American Legion Brown-Parfitt Post #43, serving as Chaplin at one time. He was also a past Little League Baseball coach in the Ripon Little League organization and a member of the Ripon Good Fellows Club.

Survivors include his wife Isabelle, son Gerald ”Jerry” and his wife Phyllis of Charlotte, North Carolina, and step-grandson, Carlton Lynn and his wife Emi of Atlanta, Georgia. One sister, Virginia (Erwin) Beilke of Ripon and numerous nieces, nephews and friends mourn his death. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and five sisters.

Visitation for Ray E. Zellmer will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon from 4-7:00 pm. Friends and family may also call on Wednesday at the Immanuel United Methodist Church from 10:30 until the time of the service.

A Memorial Service for Ray E. Zellmer will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon at 11:00 am with Reverend Paul Nulton officiating. A private family interment will take place at Garden of the Cross Cemetery in Ripon prior to the service. The family requests that memorials be made to the Immanuel United Methodist Church Elevator Fund or Affinity Hospice, 816 W. Winneconne Ave. Neenah, WI 54956.
