Reuben James Grahn, 66, of the Town of Ripon, died unexpectedly Monday, February 23, 1998, at Ripon Medical Center.
He was born May 6, 1931, in Oshkosh, a son to Christian and Jessie (Booher) Grahn. He grew up in the Green Lake area and was a 1949, graduate of Green Lake High School. On August 16, 1952, he married the former Mary Ellen VandeBrink in Ripon. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps, having served from 1951-59. For most of his life Reuben had been a truck driver for Jahnke & Schultz, and also the 4X Corporation. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. After retiring from truck driving, he drove bus for the Green Lake School System and looked forward to seeing the kids on his daily routes. He was very proud of the produce he grew at Grahns Arcade Gardens to sell at the Farmers Market in Ripon and Oshkosh. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, the Mens Club and Ushers Club, and other church committees. Reuben had a special place in his heart for the underprivileged and enjoyed making many trips to Northcot House in Milwaukee where he delivered clothing for the needy.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary Ellen; 4 sons, Allen (special friend Chandra), Craig (Wendy), Dale (Kathy), all of Ripon, and Kevin (Lynn) of N. Fond du Lac; 2 daughters, Barbara (Greg) Tress of Ripon and Valerie (John) DeMarlie of Hartford; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Aubrey (Mary) of E. Dubuque, IL and Larry (Gloria) of Green Lake; I sister, Cheryl (Dean) Berglund of Wild Rose; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Christine Grahn and Darlene Pick, 1 brother, Wayne and I granddaugher, Jennifer.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 25, 1998, at 1 PM at lmmanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon with the Rev. David Busker officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 24 from 5 until 8 PM at the funeral home and again on Wednesday from 12 noon until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in Bluffion Cemetery, Town of Brooklyn. A Memorial has been established.
