Rev. Obed Edom Balken, age 91, of Fond du Lac, died Saturday, December 25, 1999, at H.C.R. Manor Care in Fond du Lac.
He was born August 8, 1908, in Audubon, MN, a son to Jacob and Bertha (Olson) Balken. He received his education in Audubon, and on November 22, 1931, he married Alice Bakken in CA. For over 40 years, Rev. Balken was a pastor for churches in California and Minnesota. He was a member of Lighthouse Christian Church in Fond du Lac.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Laverne Norman & her husband, Paul Norman of Minneapolis, MN and Yvonne Keene & her husband, Rev. Timothy Keene of Azark, MO; 2 sons, Rev. Kenneth Balken & his wife, Bonita of Madison and Rev. Richard Balken & his wife, Joanne of Fond du Lac; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Ardith, Bertha, Ruth, Bernice and Betty, all of CA; and 2 brothers, James of WA and Richard of CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob & Bertha; 2 brothers, Arden & Morris; 2 sisters, Deborah & Marian; and wife, Alice.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 29, 1999, at 6:30 PM at Lighthouse Christian Church in Fond du Lac with the Rev. Richard P. Balken officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 until 6:30 PM at Lighthouse Christian Church, 401 South National Ave., Fond du Lac.
