Richard "Dick" Brus

Richard “Dick” Eugene Brus, age 91, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Michalene’s with his family by his side.

Dick was born November 13, 1922, in Des Moines, IA, the son of Frank J. and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Brus. Shortly after he was born, he and his family moved to Kenosha where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. Dick met Mildred Deichstetter at a Roller Rink in Chicago while he was stationed at Navy Pier and in 1943 they were married in Kenosha, WI. Dick proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked as a Firefighter for the City of Kenosha from October of 1947 to May of 1984, retiring as Captain and then moving to Green Lake, WI. Dick was an active member of The Federated Church of Green Lake where he was also a member of the church choir. He was on the city council, a member of the Izaak Walton League and a volunteer for more than 20 years for St. Agnes Hospice Hope.

Survivors include his daughter, Susan Gross of Green Lake, WI; one grandson, Evan (Elizabeth) of Tempe, AZ; daughter-in-law, June Brus; sister, Mary Wheatley of Glendale, AZ and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred; daughter, Donna Lee Porter; son, James Richard Brus; son-in-law, John Gross and two brothers, Donald and Frank Brus.

Visitation for Richard will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 11 – 12:00 pm at The Federated Church of Green Lake, 489 Scott St., Green Lake, WI 54941.

Memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 12:00 pm at The Federated Church of Green Lake with Full Military Honors following. Reverend Karen Gygax Rodriguez will officiate. Inurnment will be held at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Kenosha, WI at a later date. Memorials may be directed to The Federated Church of Green Lake Music Program, P.O. Box 471, Green Lake, WI 54941.
