Robert P. Blazel, 67, of Berlin, died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 18, 1942 to Theodore and Katherine (Flynn) Blazel, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Robert earned his college degree at Quincy College, and earned his Masters of Social Work at U.W. Milwaukee. On July 10,1965, he married Mary Katherine Vollmer, in Mattoon, IL. Robert worked as an Associate Professor of Social Work and Criminal Justice, at Quincy University for 38 years until his retirement in 2005. He was a founder of the Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service, was involved with a low income housing program, and was a board member of the Quincy Museum. Robert was involved in numerous community service organizations throughout his life. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church of Berlin.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Kay, of Berlin, WI.; his children, John (Carrie) Blazel, of Berlin, WI., Beth (Tim) Findlay, of Jackson, WI., Ted (Hanna) Blazel, of Madison, WI., Jane (Chris) Loos, of Doylestown, PA.; grandchildren, Maddie, Jillian, Emma, Emily, Ben, and Will; sister, Kathy (Bob) Stange, of Milwaukee, WI.; niece, Debbie (Greg) Blodgett, and nephew, Scott Stange. Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass for Robert will be held in Quincy, IL. at a later date. Memorials can be sent to the Robert P. Blazel Scholarship fund at Quincy University, 1800 College Ave. Quincy, IL 62301. The scholarship is for students studying for community service professions.
