Mr. Robert James Chipman, age 79, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 1991, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
Mr. Chipman was born January 14, 1912, in Redgranite, the son of Albion and Clara (Gonyo) Chipman. He attended the Redgranite Schools. From 1942 until 1945 he was a member of the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific. On October 19, 1948, he married Ethel Wendt in Ripon. From that time until 1968, he owned and operated the Bon Ton Tavern in Ripon. From 1968 until his retirement in 1977, he was employed by Speed Queen, Ripon. He is a member of V.F.W. Post #5278, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the Speed Queen Retirees Club.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Terese (Paul) Chipman Schervish of Belmont, MA; one son, Charles (Laura) Chipman of Ripon, WI; six grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Splitt of Redgranite. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, four brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call on the family from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon on Wednesday, December 4, 1991.
Funeral Services for Mr. Chipman will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 1991, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. The Reverend Harley C. W. Tretow will officiate. V.F.W. services will be held at 6:45 p.m. Interment will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Ripon. A memorial has been established in his name.
