Robert Hunter

October 3, 1925 — March 5, 2011

Robert McSchooler Hunter, age 85, of Pickett, WI passed away on March 5, 2011, at his home with his family by his side.

Bob was born on October 3, 1925, in Utica Township, the son of George and Hazel (McSchooler) Hunter. He married Patricia Catherine Smith on September 3, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in the Town of Springvale.

Bob was raised on the family farm in the Township of Utica. In the year 1947, he took over the family livestock trucking business from his father, George. He purchased a farm in 1950, where he raised sheep and beef cattle in addition to his livestock business. Bob also owned and operated a livestock buying station at Fisk. When livestock auction markets rose to popularity, Bob was one of the first buyers to participate in the veal industry in the Midwest and order buying for major packing houses. He was well known by agricultural minded people throughout Winnebago County as a man on the go and as a person involved with the welfare of others. Bob served as president of the Wisconsin Dealers Association, was a member of the Utica town board and was County Board Supervisor for District 18. Positions held on the County Board included vice-chairman of the Soil and Water Conservation Committee, co-chairman of Farm Progress Days, chairman of the Planning Commission, chairman of the Board of Adjustments and member of the Agriculture and Education Committee. Other community activities included the Winnebago County Fair Association, where he was instrumental in reviving the popular tractor pull event at the county fair, board of directors at the Pickett Cooperative, Utica Fire Department member, and leadership in the local 4-H Club. In later years, Bob was a member of the Rush Lake Restoration Committee. Bob enjoyed bowling and yearly hunting trips with his friends to the Dakotas and Wyoming, but his favorite times were watching his boys participate in sports and family vacations.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia, their four sons, Glenn (Paula) of Pickett, WI, Richard (Diane) of Excelsior of MN, Robert of Cottage Grove, WI and Jeffery (Mary) of Pickett, WI; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, Bonita Reisler; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel Hunter; step-mother, Margaret Putman; brothers, Glenn and Russell; brother-in-law, William Reisler and sister-in-law, Dorothy Hunter.
