Robert D. Owens, age 78, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2002 at Ripon Medical Center, Ripon.
Robert (Bob) was born March 15, 1924 in the Town of Nekimi, Winnebago County, a son to Iva Mary (Davis) and Samuel R. Owens. He attended Rosendale Schools and entered the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served his country from 1943-1945 spending time serving in the South Pacific during WWII. On May 22, 1945, Bob married Geraldine Shafer in Seattle, WA. He was engaged in farming in the Ring area before moving to Rosendale. He was employed at VictriLite Candle Co. of Oshkosh, while working as a forklift operator at Speed Queen, Ripon. He was employed at Speed Queen for 36 years.
Survivors include four daughters; Judy (David) Konrad, Oshkosh, Kathy Owens, Oshkosh, Donna Smoody, Rosendale, and Wendy (Mike) Haseleu, Leroy. Four sons; Mike (Kathy) Owens, Brandon, Tracy Owens, Marschall, Tony Owens, Rosendale, and Rusty (Erin) Owens, Rosendale. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and a special friend, Dorothy Waters. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Geraldine in 1988, and one brother Ralph of Milwaukee, who passed away July 6, 2002.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 7, 2002 from 1:00-3:30 p.m. with services at 3:30 p.m. all at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. Rev. Neil Wilson will officiate. Interment will be at Rosendale Cemetery, Village of Rosendale with a service including Military Honors. A memorial has been established.
