Robert Teela

Robert Allen Teela, age 77, of 116 W. Sullivan St., Ripon, died Wednesday afternoon, March 27, 2002, at Zablocki V.A. Medical Center in Milwaukee.

He was born July 29, 1924, in the Town of Metomen, the son of David Edwin and Rosabelle (Bilderback) Teela. He was schooled in Ripon and graduated from high school in 1943. Bob then served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until he was discharged in November 1945, having attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was in the 4th Battalion, 1st Special Service Force, known as the Black Devils. He received the Purple Heart with Oak Clusters and the Bronze Star. He was involved in the battle at Anzio and the liberation of Rome. After WWII, he served in the National Guard until 1950. He was an active member in the V.F.W. and served serveral times as Commander. He served as Parade Marshall for numerous Memorial Day Parades.

On September 27, 1947, he married Ellen Larsen whom he met in Norway at the end of WWII, and they made their home in Ripon. Bob was an inspector at Speed Queen in Ripon until retiring in 1989. After working 34 years at the plant, he kept busy by delivering for NAPA in Ripon. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church. Bob enjoyed bowling, football and card playing, and had bartended for many functions in Ripon. He always had a joke or a story to tell at a moment’s notice, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Teela of Ripon; 3 children, Craig (Debra) Teela of Ripon, Holly (Wayne) Henslin of Carlock, IL, and David (Terri) Teela of Greenville; 8 grandchildren, Jason (Nena) Teela of Appleton, Brett (fiancee Erica) Teela of Barneveld, Mike Teela of Ripon, Heather (Jesse) Hendricks of Ripon, Josh & Aaron Henslin, both of Madison, and Brad & Dani Teela, both of Greenville; and 4 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Trevor, Adrian and Ian. He is further survived by brothers and sisters, Jack Teela of Ripon, William (Kathy) Teela of Tucson, AZ, June Kelm of Mt. Calvary, Betty (Smiley) LaVine of Fond du Lac and Shirley Werdin of Tucson, AZ; 2 aunts; and Ellen’s family from Norway. He was preceded in death by parents; 2 brothers, Dean and Jerry Teela; sister, Beverly Teela; 2 brothers-in-law; and 1 sister-in-law.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 1, 2002, at 7 p.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church with Rev. David A. Busker officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. with a V.F.W. Service at 6:45 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for his grandson, Mike Teela.
