Roberta Madeline Robinson Comfort, age 93, of Ripon, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon.
Roberta was born on April 3, 1915, the daughter of Robert Samuel Fannie Cadwell (Neeley) Robinson, in Stillwell, OK. She graduated from the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville, AK. On June 28, 1938, she married Edwin H. Comfort in Fayetteville, AK. Roberta was a homemaker, she was active in St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon, and held offices in the Women of St. Peters Altar Guild, served on the Vestry and was a member of the choir. Roberta was also a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW); League of Women Voters; Ripon Philatelic Society, Fond du Lac Philatelic Collectors Club; Hospital Auxiliary and Volunteers; worked with the Ripon Food Co-op; served on the Ripon Recycling Committee; attended the City Council meetings as an observer for the League of Women Voters; Chairman of the LWV Observer Corps; and was formerly a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC). Roberta lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, and moved to Ripon, Wisconsin in 1952.
Survivors include her sons, Joseph Robert (Patricia) Comfort of Tempe, AZ, and Richard Edward Comfort of Appleton, WI; two grandchildren, Neal, and Alison; two great-grandchildren; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Elizabeth; one grandson, Ryan; and one brother.
Visitation for Roberta M. Comfort will be held on Tuesday, March 10., 2009, from 10-11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon.
Memorial for Roberta M. Comfort will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon, with Father Thomas H. McAlpine officiating. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL. Memorials can be given to St. Peters Episcopal Church in Robertas name.
