Roger Conant

January 10, 1929 — May 7, 2002

Roger Bryan Conant, 73, 778 Hillside Terrace, Ripon, passed away Tuesday evening, May 7, 2002, at Berlin Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 10, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of George H. and Dorothy (Bryan) Conant. He attended Ripon High School and Ripon College. Toward the end of WWII, he served in the U.S. Marines for a year and a-half. In August of 1948, he married Audrey Zahn at the First Congregational Church in Ripon. He was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Until his retirement, Roger owned Modern Motors, the Honda-Toyota Dealership in Fond du Lac. From a very young age he loved cars; he loved making them beautiful and making them go fast. His passion for performance drove him from hobby to career. An innovation in his early years of engine building resulted in a Drag Racing National Championship. He developed life-long friends from his racing days. His sons enjoyed years with Roger selling and racing go-carts, motorcycles, snowmobiles, watercraft and finally cars. He always found that extra speed secret that made his machines the fastest. Known as a perfectionist, he turned his focus to building his auto dealership that won numerous awards for sales and for customer satisfaction.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Conant of Ripon; 2 sons, James (Susan) Conant and their children, Jennifer and Stephanie of Fairfax Station, VA, and David (Cassie) Conant and their children, Taylor, Catie, Kellie and Emily of Newport Beach, CA; 3 brothers, George Conant of MA, Orin Conant and Paul (Florence) Conant, all of Ripon; sister, Claire (Dr. Roy) Neynaber of San Diego, CA; and 7 nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
