Roger J. Splitt, age 80, of Ripon, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010, at his home with his family at his side.

Roger was born to John and Gertrude (Meyer) Splitt on May 31, 1930, in Plymouth, Wisconsin. He attended Prairie Lawn Country School and graduated from Ripon High School in 1948 and graduated from Fond du lac Junior College in 1950. Roger married Bernadette Redemann on June 27, 1953, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Ripon, were he was a member his entire life. He owned and operated Splitt’s Grocery Store in Ripon and was the store manager of Food Queen Grocery Stores for many years. After retirement Roger was a custodian at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, providing general assistance and maintenance for many years. Roger was a member of the Army National Guard, Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry. Roger was the past president of the Ceresco School PTA, Secretary and bowler for the Ripon City Association Bowling League, a charter member of the Ripon Lions Club, Ripon Jaycee Club, and the Ripon Knights of Columbus. He was a past Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Grand Knight, a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree of Fond du Lac and past Faithful Navigator 4th Degree, for the Knights of Columbus, past District Deputy of the Knight’s of Columbus (Ripon district). Roger was a Religious Education Instructor and Eucharistic Minister for many years for St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church of Ripon, ministering to those at home as well as Fountain View Nursing Home.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadette, of 57 years; daughters, Peggy (Bruce) Lindsay, of Fremont, WI, Sue (Ron) Mlodzik of Ripon, WI; son, John (Colleen Kok) Splitt, of Ripon, WI; 4 grandchildren, Travis (Tiffany) Mlodzik of Bloomington, MN, Andrew (Amber Schmidt) Lindsay of Chicago, IL, TJ (Tiffany) Mlodzik of Fond du Lac, WI, and Adam Lindsay of Fremont, WI; step-granddaughters and step-great-granddaughters, Colleen (Grant) Billings, and Alyssa, Kelly (Rob) Block, children, Megan and Ashley; step-grandson’s and step-great-grandchildren, Matt (Irene) Kok, children, Ava, Samatha, Alyssa, and Nicholas, Toby Kok, children, Myles, and Silas; sister, Mary (Al) Wheeler, of McFarland, WI; brother-in-law, Floyd Stellmacher; brothers and sisters-in-law, William (Ruth) Redemann of Winnetka, IL, Robert (Betty) Redemann of Oshkosh, WI, David (Donna) Redemann of Lakewood, WA, James (Janice) Redemann of Green Bay, WI, Leo Kurcz of Chicago, IL, Dolores Marquart of Albuquerque, NM, Terry (Fritz) Ferch of Ripon, WI, and many nieces and nephews. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude; in-laws Hilmar and Marie Redemann; sister, Elaine Stellmacher; sisters-in-law, Betty Kurcz, and Maryann Redemann; brother-in-law, Lloyd Marquart; 1 niece, 4 nephews, and 1 great-nephew.

Visitation for Roger J. Splitt will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, from 4-7:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be said at 7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Drive, Ripon, WI. Friends may also call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 415 E. Fond du Lac Street in Ripon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Roger J. Splitt on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, with Father’s Robert A. Fictum, John Schmitz, and William Whalen officiating. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Catholic Church in the Town of Ripon.
