Rosemary Kwakkel

Rosemary Daun Owens Kwakkel, 77, of Ripon, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, in Oshkosh.

Rosemary was born in Beaver Dam, WI, on June 2, 1934, the daughter of Eben and Vina (Freeman) Owens. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1952, and was married on June 21, 1952, to Gilbert Kwakkel at the Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Rosemary worked as a sewer at Ripon Knitting Works in Ripon and at Fabriko in Green Lake, where she was in charge of quality control and product development. She enjoyed chocolate, reading, sewing, puzzles and her family, as well as doing things for others, including making hundreds of teddy bears and blankets for families experiencing bereavement. In addition to her family, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends at Willowbrook Apartments in Ripon, and had many extended family in the Waupun & Horicon areas.

Survivors include her children, Kathleen (John) Johnson of Oshkosh, Sharon (David) Stobb of Ripon, Steven Kwakkel of Markesan, Robert (Lisa) Kwakkel of Ripon, and Susan “Chicky” (Phillip) Kasuboski of Brandon, one daughter-in-law, Susan Kwakkel; her grandchildren, Cory Kwakkel, Carry Kwakkel, John Kwakkel, Rebecca LaPoint, Wendy Loughlin, Eric Stobb, Kevin Stobb, Shane Kwakkel, Shannon Peth, and Allicia Pfeilsticker; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey Kwakkel, Ava Kwakkel, Lilian Kwakkel, Haylee Stobb, Brayden Stobb, Brett Peth, Brice Peth, Jackson Pfeilsticker and Mason Pfeilsticker. Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years Gilbert Kwakkel who passed away on May 6, 2005; one son John, grandsons, Michael Hall Loughlin & Steven Owen Kwakkel; and one brother, David Charles Owens of Horicon, WI.

Visitation for Rosemary D. Kwakkel will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011, from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 401 W. Fond du Lac Street, Ripon, WI 54971, where friends and family that received a teddy bear from Rosemary are requested to bring the teddy bear to the visitation in her honor.

Funeral services for Rosemary D. Kwakkel will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon, with Louis Bock officiating. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. A memorial is being established.
