Rosemary E. Smith, age 85, of Markesan, WI, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at her home.
Rosemary was born on January 14, 1926, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Edward and Eleanor (OCallaghan) Lamich. She not only raised 12 children of her own, but she and her late husband, Harold had such a love of children that they brought into their already filled home and cared for 97 foster kids over three decades through Catholic Charities. Rosemarys favorite time of the year was the Christmas holidays and her Hallmark family Christmas each year at her home for 61 years were cherished by all who attended. She was a genuine example of one person who gave more to this world than she ever took from it. She will be greatly missed by all.
Rosemary was the beloved wife of the late Harold P. Smith; loving mother of Dennis (Beth) Smith, Michael (Lynn) Smith, Thomas (Claudia) Smith, James Smith, Joseph (Kelly) Smith, Patrick (Liz) Smith, Jeffrey (Nancy) Smith, Stephen (Donna) Smith, Susan (Mike) Fristrom, Timothy (Chris) Smith, Mark (Debbie) Smith and Sandi (Mike) Jordan; cherished grandmother of 27 grandchildren, Tim, Sarah, Becky, Kate, Kelly, Jason (Heather), Cody, Ashley, Richard, Sarah, Stephanie (Tony), Lee, Eddie, Jeffrey, Hanne, Lindsey, Mike, Michele, Brian, Nick, Chloe, Madison, Sam, Joe, Brandon and Christopher; four great-grandchildren, Abbey, Jackson, Ashlyn, and Easton and dear sister of Ed (Ginny) Lamich, George (Bonnie) Lamich and Marg (the late Martin) Devaney. Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, parents and grandson, Scotty.
Visitation for Rosemary E. Smith will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011, from 4 9:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr. Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 12 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 530 Ruth St. Green Lake, WI 54941.
Mass of Christian Burial for Rosemary E. Smith will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake. Father Philip Krogman will officiate. Interment will follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake.
In lieu of flowers, in honor of Rosemarys caring for these 97 foster children (mostly infants) over several decades of her life, the family would appreciate donations be made to Catholic Charities or Make-A-Wish Foundation. Donations should be made payable to one of the above charities and sent to Smith Family, 859 Oakton Street, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007.
