Roy Berndt

Roy “Doc” Berndt, age 86, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.
Roy was born on November 24, 1925, on the family farm in rural Fairwater, the son of Helmuth and Edith (Daehn) Berndt. In 1945, he served our country in the United States Army until 1946. On June 28, 1946, Roy married Barbara Lorraine Crook at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon. Roy’s love for farming stayed with him throughout his life starting at his family farm. He worked as a carpenter and prior to retirement; he was a school bus dispatch at Laper’s Fairwater Garage and drove school bus for Green Lake School District for many years. Roy was a life-long member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, Green Lake Willis-Chapel Legion Post #306, Farm Bureau, Wings over Wisconsin and 4-H.
Survivors include his wife, the love of his life for 77 years, Barbara “Dolly” Berndt; nine children, Bonnie (Steve) Japuntich, Penny (Tim) Holdorf, David (Linda) Berndt, Barbara (Arnie) Dahlke Jr., Herman “Rick” (Diane) Berndt, Kathy (Dale) Grahn, Carol (Jerry) Dolske, Norman (Cindy) Berndt, Danny (Jacky) Berndt and special family members, Wendy and Calinda; twenty-five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel; four sisters-in-law, Eula, Nadja, Charlene and Janet; one brother-in-law, Almond and several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation for Roy Berndt will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012, from 10 – 12:00 pm at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral service for Roy Berndt will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012, at 12:00 pm at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon. Reverend Mark R. West will officiate. Interment will follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake, WI with full military honors. Memorials may be directed to Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott St., Ripon, WI 54971 or Green Lake-Chapel Legion Post #306, P.O. Box 448, Green Lake, WI 54941.
