Roy Arnold Smith, age 84, of Ripon, died Monday morning, January 15, 2001, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon.
He was born January 11, 1917, in the Town of Metomen, a son to Albert and Amanda (Tabbert) Smith. He attended Ripon area schools. On April 19, 1941, he married Doris Tavs in Ripon. After their wedding, Roy and Doris moved to Milwaukee where he worked in tool and die making during the war until they moved back to Ripon in the late 40s. Roy then worked as a tool and die maker at Rowley Tool & Engineering in Green Lake, and later worked at Green Giant Container until retiring. Mr. Smith was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Ripon Auxiliary Police for many years. Roy was a member of the Fond du Lac Running Club, and ran in the Chicago Marathon.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; son, Gary (Suzanne) Smith of South Barrington, IL; grandson, Jason Smith of South Barrington, IL; and sister-in-Iaw, Lois Zimdars of Ripon. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Funeral service for Roy A. Smith will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2001, at Immanuel United Methodist Church Ripon, with Rev. Neil Wilson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Brandon Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
