Russell Lee Oppor, age 71, Ripon, died Friday morning, June 28, 2002, at Parkview Care Center, Ripon after an extended illness.
He was born October 13, 1930, in the Town of Royalton, WI, a son to Frank and Pearl (Miller) Oppor. He served in the U.S. Air Force Military Police from 1951-1955. Russell had been a truck driver most of his life, and had worked for Peck Meats of Menomonee Falls, Del Chemical Company and Ripon Foods. He had lived in Ripon for about 40 years, and was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Republican Party and the 1 Million Mile Club for Driving. Russell loved to hunt, especially deer, and enjoyed outdoor activities, and spending time at his farm. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include 3 brothers, Earl (Myra) Oppor of Ogdensburg, Elmer Oppor of Lola, and Arnold Oppor of Larsen; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and special friend, Elgene Disterhaft and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Clifford (Valeria) Oppor and Marlin (Vivian) Oppor; 2 sisters, Evelyn (Oscar) Long and Elsie (Clarence) Strebe; 2 sisters-in-law, Alma Oppor and Carla Oppor; and infant sister, Melanie Oppor.
Funeral service for Russell Lee Oppor will be Monday, July 1, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Ripon with Pastor Paul Mose officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. lnurnment will be in Ogdensburg Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in his name.
