Mr. Samuel G. Rector Jr., age 79, of Ripon, WI, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 1992, at his home.
Sam was born March 2, 1913, in Brooklyn, NY, a son to Samuel and Frances (Durkin) Rector Sr. He attended school in New York and was a Boy Scout. After studying Pharmacy and Electricity, he worked as a chauffeur for Knickerbacker Ice Co. in New York for 21 years. He was in World War II for four years as a military policeman. He met his wife, the former Mary Smoody at Baxter General Hospital in Spokane, WA, they were married in a military wedding on base and lived in New York City. They later moved to Wisconsin so Mary could care for her mother in Berlin. Sam worked at the Koro Creamery and Speed Queen in Ripon for 17 years until he was disabled in 1974.
He was a member of the Ripon Eagles Club, Retirees Union Club #1327, Nepeuskun Horse Association, former member of St. Michaels Catholic Church of Berlin, a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church of Ripon, and American Legion Brown- Parfitt Post #43 of Ripon.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sisters, Margaret Stock of Highstown, New Jersey, Johanna (Eric) Reinhold of Moores Forks, New York, and Henneratta (Adolfo) Corsi of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 1992, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Ripon. The Reverend William L. Toelle will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at St. Michaels Cemetery in Berlin.
Friends may call from 4:00 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 1992, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon where a prayer vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. and legion service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for Hospice Hope.
