Shirley C. Jahnke, age 83, formerly of Ripon and Green Lake, died peacefully at home in Milwaukee on November 2, 2006 with family present.

Shirley was born on March 16, 1923, the daughter of Thelma (Campfield) (Carley) Luetke and Charles Floyd. She grew up in Berlin and graduated from Berlin High School. She married Richard E. Jahnke on September 29, 1943 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Rectory in Ripon. Shirley was a former member of (St. Patrick’s Catholic Church) St. Catherine Catholic Church and the Altar Society there. She also belonged to the Ripon Women’s Club, and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years.

Shirley was a sweet and loving person who devoted much of her life’s energies to caring for others as an exceptionally devoted daughter, wife, mother, and friend. Her only daughter, Laura is honored to have had the chance to try to return just a small portion of that same special care to her in her later years.

Survivors include her daughter Laura Jahnke-Meid, son-in-law, Mike Meid of Milwaukee, one brother, Richard (Naomi) Carley of Ripon, brother and sister in-law, Norbert Jahnke and Jean Redman-Jahnke of Green Lake, and longtime friend, Laverna Gozinske of Ripon. Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, stepfather, Harry Luetke, and her husband, Richard on February 5, 1987.

Visitation for Shirley will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 218 Blossom St., Ripon from 10-11 a.m.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ripon with Reverend William Whalen and Father John A. Schmitz officiating. Inurnment will follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake. In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations in Shirley’s name be made to Tri-County Animal Shelter.
