Shirley W. Stewart, age 92, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017, at Prairie Place Assisted Living in Ripon.
Shirley was born on February 9, 1924, in Reedsburg, WI, daughter of Arthur and Martha (Meyer) Winter. She graduated from Reedsburg High School, and went on to attend Groves-Barnhart Secretarial School in Madison, WI. She became a secretary at the U.W. Hospital Business Office, and also at WI Power and Light, both in Madison, WI. On January 16, 1949, Shirley married Russell W. Stewart in Reedsburg. They moved to Ripon in 1951, where she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. At Grace Lutheran she enjoyed being a member of Dorcas Circle Quilters, Social Concerns Committee, and also volunteered at other church activities and events. She worked as a secretary for the City of Ripon for many years until she retired. Shirley also donated her time and care at kindergarten at Adams School and Alice Callan Elementary School in Ripon. Her family was always the most important part of her life. Keeping in touch with many friends was a favorite pastime. Shirley also enjoyed baking and was always doing special things for others.
Shirley is survived by her children, Barb (Vince) Rowan of Tomah, WI, and Jim (Sandy Roggow) Stewart of Hazelhurst, WI; grandchildren, Adam (Karen) Rowan of Watertown, MN, Heather Rowan of Tomah, WI, Maree (Scott Teigen) Stewart of Marshfield, WI, Maddy Stewart of Duluth, MN; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Eliza, Alex, Caden, and Kensley; a sister, Amy Monson; and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her parents, Arthur and Martha; and a brother, Robert Winter.
A visitation for Shirley will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church, 430 W. Griswold St., Ripon, WI, 54971.
A funeral service for Shirley will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church, with Reverend Clay R. Salmela officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon.
Shirleys family would like to extend a special thank you to all her caregivers over the years, at Prairie Place, Agnesian Healthcare Hospice, Lakeland Family Care, and all the support from her Grace Lutheran Church Family. A memorial is being established in her name.
