Shirley Williams

June 17, 1929 — February 21, 2015

Shirley Mary Magdalene Williams, age 85, of Ripon, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015, at her home with her loving family by her side.

Shirley was born June 17, 1929, in Ripon, Wisconsin, the daughter of Robert and May Labisky. She graduated from Ripon High School in 1947 and later earned a degree in economics from Ripon College, where she met her one-and-only husband, James L. Williams. Shirley was first and foremost a loving and caring mother and wife who made a wonderful home for her family. She was active in the community — a member of several local organizations including Bridge Club, Study Club, Ripon Historical Society and the League of Women Voters. Additionally, she was a founding and life-long member of Girls Club as well as a proud member of the organization formerly known as the Hemlock Society and served on the board of the local chapter of Compassion and Choices, a cause she truly believed in. Shirley also loved her time volunteering at the Ripon Medical Center gift shop, traveling, and keeping up on current events, among many other activities. She was a great cook who enjoyed artistic endeavors and cultural events. She was an overall great sport and a joy to be around.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Mara) of Fond du Lac and Charles and Joseph (Julie) both of Ripon, and four daughters Judith of Ripon, Jennifer, Natalie (Dan) Stenson of Oshkosh and Claire (Kevin) Weslaski of Racine. Survivors also include 13 loving grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her special friend of many years, Don Amsden of Ripon. Other friends of note include Dee and Sean. She was indeed adored by many and will be dearly missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and May Labisky, her husband, James Williams, her sister, Claire Barnes, and her granddaughter Charlotte Williams.
