Sidney Shafer

Sidney Walton Shafer, 73, of 200 N. Main St., Rosendale, died October 9, 1990, in the Town of Eldorado.

He was born October 3, 1917, in the Town of Springvale, a son of Robert and Berna Hoyt Shafer. On November 16, 1946, he married Margaret Snider.

Mr. Shafer was a 1935 graduate of Rosendale High School and served in the First Armoured Division during World War II. He had lived in the Rosendale area all of his life and retired after 30 years as an electrician at the Fred Rueping Leather Co. in Fond du Lac. He was a charter and life member of the Rosendale V.F.W. Post #10195 and a member of the Catholic War Veterens Post #1329 of Fond du Lac. He was a charter member of the Rosendale Lions Club and a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ripon.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Captain Sidney Robert (Nancy) of Tampa, FL, Paul F. (Diane) of Amery, Allan J. (Joan) of Fond du Lac and Joseph M. (Lynn) of Rosendale; one daughter, Ann M. (James) Perkins of Brandon; twelve grandchildren; his mother, Berna Shafer of Rosendale; two brothers, Bernard of Rosendale and William of Brandon; three sisters, Jane Splitgaber of Brandon, Jeannette Rupnow of Monomonee Falls and Joyce Pinch of Rosendale. His father, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 until 8 P.M. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon where V.F.W. Services will be held at 8 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Shafer will be held Friday at 10 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ripon with the Reverend John A. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the Rosendale Cemetery in Rosendale.
