Sidney Sid Lyman Welles, age 65, of Rosendale, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2006, at St. Agnes Hospital.
Sidney was born April 2, 1941 in Fond du Lac, the son of Theodore and Edna (Nelson) Welles. On March 6, 1976 he married Jane Olson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun.
1959 graduate of Rosendale Union Free High School;
10/59-10/63 Sid proudly served in the US Navy. Served as a ship fitter 2nd class on USS Detector and the USS Dominant;
Served a tour of duty in the Cuban Conflict;
1963-1968 Sid worked at Speed Queen;
1968-1992 owned and operated Birchwood Registered Guernsey Dairy Farm (the oldest registered Guernsey dairy farm in the state of Wisconsin);
1992-2002 various maintenance positions and planted land into CRP;
2003-Retired (but not tired)!
Sids accomplishments were many, including attaining many medals of honor with the Boy Scouts of America. He was Charter Commander of Rosendale VFW, and later member of VFW Ripon.
Sids sincerity and honesty, his humor and great story telling, and his wonderful laughter will be remembered by everyone who heard his voice.
Survivors include, his beloved wife of 30 years, Jane E. Welles and 3 sons, Benjamin Martin Welles and fiancé Mariah Luchterhand of Madison; Charles Edward Welles of Fond du Lac; and Christopher Louis Lyman Welles of Rosendale; sisters, Jean Zimmerman of Rosendale; Ann (Roger) Riedeman of Ripon; and Ruth (Stephen) Bernstein of Olympia, WA; brother, Lynn (Susan) Welles of Rosendale and many other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Visitation for Sidney Lyman Welles will be held on Monday, June 5, 2006 from 4-7:30 p.m. with a VFW service following at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home and on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 from 10-11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Rosendale.
Funeral Service for Sidney Lyman Welles will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Rosendale, with Reverend Laura K. Hawkins Officiating. Interment will be in Rosendale Cemetery, in the Village of Rosendale. A memorial has been established.
