Stephen F. Owen, age 66, of Green Lake, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 23, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident.
Stephen was born in Milwaukee, on September 23, 1943, the son of John S. and Mary Belle (Frye) Owen. He went to Country Day School-Elementary School, Wilbraham Academy-High School, received a B.A. from Trinty University in San Antonio, TX, and completed two Master’s Degrees at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Stephen worked at the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation as an Administrator/Aviation Specialist from 1970 to his retirement in 1999. He married Diana Griffin on December 12, 1993 and in 1999, they retired and made their home in Green Lake, WI. He loved nature and had great respect for Ralph Waldo Emerson. Stephen spent all the summers of his life in the north woods of Wisconsin. He was a loving husband, a proud father of his two daughters and a passionate educator of aviation.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Owen of Green Lake; two daughters, Betsy Owen of Chicago, IL, and Mary Owen of Royal Oak, MI; three step daughters, Katrina (Jim) Kotowski, of Champaign, IL, Alexia Griffin of Nixa, MO, and Ginger (Brad) Passalacqua of Champaign, IL; and one brother, John Owen of Naples, FL. Stephen was preceded in death by parents; and one brother, William Frye Owen.
Time of Celebration for Stephen F. Owen will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2010, from 1 – 3:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
Memorial service for Stephen F. Owen will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at 3:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Father Thomas H. McAlpine will officiate. Memorials have been established in his name, P.O. Box 371 Ripon, WI 54971.
