The Reverend Dale Jennings, of Ripon, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 1991, at his home.
He was born December 26, 1907, in Union Grove, WI, the son of Arthur and Alma Vanderhoef Jennings. He was educated in Union Grove Elementary and High School, and in 1932 received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ripon College. On November 10, 1940, he married Edna Blader. Following their marriage he received his Master of Divinity from Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston, IL. He was ordained in 1945.
Since his ordination, he has received appointments in Salem and Wilmot in Kenosha County, St. Johns in Milwaukee, Sun Prairie, N. Windsor, Butler, Waupun, Lamartine, Oconto Falls, Lena, Advance and Elo. During these appointments he served as Conference Statistician for many years. He retired in 1973. In 1974, he returned to active ministry to serve the Elo Parish until 1986.
Reverend Jennings was active in international Christian and peace movements and traveled abroad several times to Communist countries witnessing to church and government. He participated in an International Christian Movement meeting in England in 1976, and again in Switzerland in 1985. He was interested in the work of the United Nations and in 1973 he spent a month in India studying the work of the U.N. and visiting mission stations there. He was one of the first Americans to participate in the Volga Peace Cruise during 1982. In 1986, he rejoined people from Russia on the Mississippi Peace Cruise. He shared his experiences abroad in area communities through illustrated lectures.
His interest in the American Field Service program brought a student from Indonesia to his home in Waupun.
During 1989, he joined in the farm movement by organizing a Georgia haylift for Wisconsin Farmers through the Harvest of Hope. He is a member of the Ripon Clergy Association and a member of the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church of Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, Edna; one son, David of Missoula, Montana; one daughter, Carolyn Griffin (Mrs. Roy) of Green River, Wyoming; seven grandchildren; one sister, Clara Olson (Mrs. Ellsworth) of Racine. He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother, two other brothers and a sister.
Friends may call from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 1991, at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon where a funeral service for Reverend Jennings will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. The Reverend Robert LeCount will officiate, assisted by members of the Ripon Clergy Association. Interment will be Monday, February 4, 1991, at the Garden of the Cross Cemetery in Ripon.
A memorial in Reverend Jennings name will be established for Hospice Hope and a selected church mission.
