Thomas Bilderback

January 14, 1945 — May 11, 2016

Thomas E. Bilderback, age 71, of Berlin, WI, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, peacefully at home with his wife at his side.

Tom was born in 1945, in Ripon, WI, a son of Emmons and Lorraine (Krueger)
Bilderback. He was baptized and confirmed in Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon.

He attended and graduated from Ripon High School in 1963, after which he was employed by Mercury Marine. Tom then worked for 5 years for Leach Company in Oshkosh and then returned to Mercury Marine and retired in 2007, as manager of engineering machine shops accumulating 39 years of service. He was extremely proud of his team and what they accomplished through the years. Tom enlisted in the National Guards in 1966 through 1972 and was part of the 1157th Transportation Company based in Oshkosh, WI.

He met the love of his life, Patricia Furlong of Fond du Lac, and they were married in 1966, at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ. Tom and Patricia had one son, William “Bud” Bilderback, who passed on April 5, 2006. At the time of Tom’s passing they were just 2 months from celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on July 9, 2016.

Hunting, fishing, part-time farming, traveling, and partying with friends around the camp fire were activities enjoyed on the weekends and vacations. He also took pride in the raising and racing of Standardbred race horses on the Illinois race tracks. His first horse earned Horse of the Year at Quad City Downs in East Moline, Illinois and set a track record which still stands for the most wins in a year. He also looked forward to spending winter months at their home in Cedartown, Georgia, getting together with family and new friends.

After his retirement he couldn’t wait to attend the Berlin Senior Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays to play sheepshead with his friends. Actually, no matter where he was, if he could get a game of sheepshead going, he was in his glory. He was a former member of the Neshkoro Lions Club, N.R.A. and Illinois Racing Association.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Bilderback of Berlin, WI; sister, Margaret Wendt of Ripon, WI and nieces, nephews and a special great-niece and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Emmons and Lorraine Bilderback and son, William “Bud” Bilderback.
