Thomas Callen

Thomas Edwin Callen, 68, of Ripon, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 25, 1996, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center, Neenah.

Tom is survived by his wife, Marilyn; 2 daughters, Laurie (Robert) Will of Ripon, and Jody (Curt) Thiel of Ripon and children Adam, Katie, Ben and Daniel; and 3 sons, Daniel (Cathy Waldock) Callen of Northfield, MN and daughter Stacia Waldock, Michael (Kathy) Callen of Ripon and sons David and John, and James Callen of Ripon. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Verna Callen, stepmother, Harriet Callen, 2 brothers, George and James Callen, and infant granddaughter, Josephine Will.

He was born December 6, 1927, in Madison, the son of the late Edwin and Verna (Ruby)Callen. After graduating from Madison West High School, Tom served in the U.S.Navy from 1945-46. Upon graduating from Ripon College, he went on to receive his Masters Degree from UW-Madison. On September 1, 1951, Tom married the former Marilyn Phyllis Bums. Tom had been a school teacher and coached football and track for most of his life. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Ripon.

A Memorial Service for the late Thomas E. Callen will be 5 P.M. Saturday, January 27, 1996, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ripon. The Rev. Paul Holte will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 3 until 5 P.M. at the church. Cremation will take place and inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it was Tom’s wish that memorials be given to Wisconsin Special Olympics or the Ingalls Field Project.
