Thomas Claburn Jones, 80, of Green Lake, passed away Friday, March 3, 1995, at his home.
He was born July 6, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Jesse and Florence Thomas Jones. He was educated at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. On November 22, 1939 he married Margaret Wisenberg. He served his country in World War II in the Marine Corp. in the South Pacific Theatre as a Captain in the Marine Corp. intelligence.
Mr. Jones was president of Geographical Publishing Company from 1945 to 1956 in Chicago, and in 1956 became the executive vice-president of J.G. Ferguson Publishing Company, serving as editor and vice-president until his retirement in 1977. He became an independent editor and publisher, founding the Hall of Fame Press of Geneva, Illinois. He was a summer resident of Green Lake since 1962. He was a member of the Chicago Athletic Association, and of Barrington Hills Country Club of Illinois.
Thomas Jones is survived by 2 daughters: Lynn (Gerald) Grout of Ripon and Jessica (Harold) Anderson of Pittsford, Vermont, 2 sons: Thomas C. (Karin) Jones of Tuba City, Arizona, and Douglas E. (April) Jones of Eugene, Oregon, 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons, 1 sister: Margaret (David) Sanders of Las Vegas, Nevada, and 7 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and 2 sisters.
A memorial service for Thomas Jones will be held Tuesday, March 7, 1995, at 11:00 am at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon with the Reverend Robert J. C. Brown officiating. Inurnment will follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake.
Friends may call on Monday, March 6, 1995, from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
