Leland Lee Scott Nelson, age 76, of Ripon, WI, passed away peacefully Monday, February 15, 2021, at his home.
UPDATE: A Celebration of Life for LeLand will be held at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 4:00 pm.
Lee was born June 28, 1944, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Phillip and Mabel (Meder) Nelson. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School and went on to further his education at University of Minnesota, receiving his masters at Northern University of Illinois and his double masters at U.W. Milwaukee. Lee was a middle school principal in Ripon for 30 years, retiring in 2001. In 1995, he married DeVonne Dyre in Ripon.
Lee had a passion for playing hockey and golf, football, boating, motorcycle riding, skiing, cars, a love of dogs, especially his dogs, Ranger Schnapps, Barnie, Tabbacco and Bear. LeLand and DeVonne enjoyed traveling and winters in different Southern states, playing cards with the same group of friends for many years until his health declined and he had a great love of family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, DeVonne Nelson of Ripon, WI; son, Johnathan (Leslie) Nelson of Westminster, CO; step daughter, Chris (Chuck) Waughtal of Marshfield, WI; step son, Kyle (Sara) Nikolai of Berlin, WI; 11 grandchildren, Jackson and Blake Nelson, Mirissa and Alicia Nikolai and Nicholas, Kendell, Tyler, Rose, Lili, Isaiah and Issac Waughtal; brother, Brad (Myrna) Nelson of Brooklyn Center, MN; nieces, Kris (Todd) Tampa and Jenni (John) Rohling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mabel Nelson and step son, Scott Nikolai.
Per Lees wishes, there will be no services. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
