Veta Mabel Mathweg, age 87, of Markesan, WI, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Markesan Resident Home.

Veta was born October 5, 1924, in Hancock, WI, the daughter of Earl Willard and Mabel Clair (Ordway) Morey. She graduated from Hancock High School. Veta worked as a grocery clerk for 16 years in Hancock before moving to Markesan and working at Birkie’s Supermarket. On October 3, 1959, she married Arden Henry Mathweg in Wautoma. Veta was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Markesan.

Survivors include three daughters, Jacqueline (Gary) Quade of Fairwater, WI, Judy (Paul) Malsack of Montello, WI and Audrey Street of Tucson, AZ; eight grandchildren, Adam (Debra Sauerbrei) Quade of Ripon, WI, Kimberly Quade of Ripon, WI, Victoria (Danny) Lomeli of Waukesha, WI, Gregory (Michelle) Malsack of Waukesha, WI and Jason Malsack of Oshkosh, WI, Rick Street of Tucson, AZ, Tony (Kimberly) Street of Parksville, WV and Theresa Travis of Tucson, AZ; ten great-grandchildren and one sister, Vivian (Douglas) Blom of Fort Atkinson, WI. Veta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers, Bernard, Donald, Carol, Ray, Earl and Vance Morey and one sister, Bonnie Clark.

Visitation for Veta Mathweg will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012, from 10 – 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 93 W. Catherine St., Markesan, WI 53946, with the funeral service immediately following. Pastor Jason Jobs will officiate. Interment will follow at Markesan Memorial Cemetery in Markesan.
