Vivian Lindquist

September 21, 1917 — December 7, 2011

Vivian Beatrice Lindquist, age 94, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Barrett House in Ripon.

She was born September 21, 1917, in Hudson, South Dakota, the daughter to William “Will” and Neliphine “Nellie” (Hanson) Bergstrom. Vivian graduated from Hudson High School as valedictorian of her class and went on to receive her Bachelors from St. Olaf College and Masters from Rutgers University. She taught English in high school and also worked as a librarian. During WWII, Vivian taught Air Force Pilots Morris Code at Sioux Falls Air Field. After the war, she worked for Red Cross in Washington DC and South Korea where she met her husband, Roy George Lindquist, Jr. who was a Lieutenant in the army at that time and in 1949, she married Roy in Springfield, MA. Vivian enjoyed reading, especially Jane Austen literature, traveling, music with her favorites being Bach and Beethoven, playing Bridge and other games and getting together with her many friends in various locations.

Survivors include one son, Mark Lindquist and his wife, Diane Mockridge; their children, William “Willie” Lindquist and Samantha “Sammy” Lindquist all of Ripon. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Norman “Nubz” Bergstrom and sister, Myrtle Miller.

A memorial service for Vivian Lindquist will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 217 Houston St. Ripon, WI 54971. Father Thomas H. McAlpine will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Hudson, SD. Memorials may be given to Partners in Annual Giving, St. Olaf College, 1520 St. Olaf Avenue, Northfield, MN 55057.
