W. G. Van VandeStreek, age 72, passed away Monday morning, November 28, 2005, at his home on Heritage Dr., Green Lake, under the care of Affinity Hospice.
He was born March 11, 1933, in Alto, a son to Marie and Garret VandeStreek. He graduated from Waupun High School, and attended the Art Institute in Chicago and Art School in Los Angeles, CA. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Nov. 14, 1950 to Aug. 28, 1954. Van moved to Green Lake in the late 50s and worked at Barnekows, Bel Air, Nortons, and was bar and dining room manager at Heidel House, and Alfreds. He will be remembered as owning Carvers since 1972 when it re-opened, serving tableside, Caesar salads, Steak Diane, and flaming desserts. After Carvers was sold in 1990, Van managed Nordic Hill for several years. Vans customers meant so much to him and he received much joy from them. Van was an avid golfer and was a member of Mascoutin Golf Club. He had close friends and rarely went anywhere where people didnt know him. Van lived for Marilyn Mette, his significant other, and her family of 4 children, Mike (Anne) Mette of Cedarburg, Janet (Al) Bednarek of Berlin, Melinda Floros of San Diego, CA, Sheryl (John) Otto of Hoffman Estates, IL, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Per Vans request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials gifts may be given in his name to Affinity Hospice, 515 S. Washburn, Suite 206, Oshkosh, WI 54904.
