Walter E. Nitz, 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Ripon on Tuesday, April 18, 1995.
Walter was born May 21, 1918, the youngest son of Emil and Ida Nitz in Wautoma. He grew up and was schooled in the Wautoma/Neshkoro area. Walter married Elizabeth Disterhaft on May 10, 1944. He lived and worked in the Green Lake, Fairwater, Markesan areas, working for Kolpin and Kinas as a truck driver and Del Monte Canning Factory as a field supervisor. He moved to Ripon in 1966.He was an avid bird watcher,
fisherman, hunter and gardener.
Walter Nitz is survived by 3 daughters, Shirley Toots Wiese, Portage, Carol (Milton) Otto, Green Lake and Linda (Butch) Dahlke, Ripon; 1 son, David (Ellen) Nitz of Ripon; 1 step-daughter, Evon (Dan) Van Ornum, Oshkosh. Grandpa Nitz will be sadly missed by 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Herb Buchholz, Margaret and Leonard Buchholz, both of Ripon, Edna East of Markesan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Art Nitz, Ripon and 2 sisters, Lena Bushweiler and Laura Fredricks of Markesan.
Friends may call Friday from 4 until 7 P.M. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Reverend Eric Burnard officiating.
