Wells Dudley Brooks, age 85, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.
He was born May 30, 1926, in Green Lake, WI, the son of Horace and Hazel (Fink) Brooks. Upon graduating in 1944 from Green Lake High School, Wells left Green Lake in April of 1944 and enlisted in the Navy, returning in June of 1946. Throughout his life, Wells was a boat designer, builder and mechanic for Brooks Marine Company, farmed on the family homestead farm and operated a custom sawmill on the farm and was a carpenter for Al Klaver Builders in Green Lake and Schmitt Construction in Ripon. On October 30, 1948, Wells married Dorothy Jean Hutt. He attended the Federated Church of Green Lake and was a member of the American Legion. Wells was a sports enthusiast, an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed reading and music, but most importantly spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Dottie of 62 years of Green Lake, WI; four sons, Steven (Nancy) Brooks of Whitelaw, WI, Robert (Ann) Brooks of Wausau, WI, Dennis (Judy) Brooks of Green Lake, WI and Kenneth (Cindy) Brooks of Lodi, WI; one daughter, Barbara (Tim) Grim of Green Lake, WI; grandchildren, Stephanie (Tracy) Bartels of Chilton, WI, Steve (Julie) Brooks of Ripon, WI, Margaret (Scott) Brooks-Highhouse of Bowling Green, OH, Samuel Brooks of Eau Claire, WI, Norah (Jason) Brown of Wausau, WI, Benjamin Brooks of Wausau, WI, Jennifer Brooks of Minneapolis, MN, Jamie (Eric) Taylor of Monroe, WI, Casey Schackow of Green Lake, WI, Haley Schackow of Green Lake, WI and Brad Brooks of Green Lake, WI; great-grandchildren, Emma, Sadie, Riley, Ariana, Reese, Carmen, Cole, Baye, Jackson, Julian, Annarose, Kennedy, Logan, Shayla and Chase; and one sister, Barbara (William) Jacoby of River Falls, WI. Wells was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law, Frank and Matilda Hutt.
