Wilbert Retzlaff

Wilbert Retzlaff, 86, formerly of Ripon, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at his home in Crandon, Forest County.

He was born October 16, 1915, on the family farm in the rural Pickett/Waukau area, a son to Otto and Emma (Gehrke) Retzlaff, Sr. He attended rural school, and later served his country during World War II from December 26, 1942 – October 11, 1945. On February 22, 1941, he married Gladys Ninneman in Ripon and they made their home in Ripon. Wilbert had been a truck driver for Speed Queen in Ripon until his retirement. They then moved to Crandon in 1977, where he drove school bus and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one daughter, Shirley Silva of CA; two grandchildren, Maria (Matt) Smith and Jeff (Anne) Silva of CA; two great-grandchildren, Tony & Emily Silva, also of CA; twin sister, Elsie Peschke of Markesan; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and six sisters.

Funeral service for Wilbert Retzlaff will be Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at 11 am at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon with the Reverend Gerald Schrankler officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the service. Interment will be in Fairwater Cemetery in Fairwater. A memorial has been established.
