Wilbur Perry

Wilbur W. Perry, 93, of Ripon, died, Monday, June 20, 1994, at Parkview Care Center, Ripon, where he has resided for 6 years.

Although born November 23, 1901, in Missouri, Wilbur came to Ripon when he was a teenager, and graduated from Ripon High School in 1921. He shortly returned to St. Louis where he married Marye Smith on August 31, 1929. They returned to Ripon in 1932, where they have since made their home. Wilbur joined the Speed Queen Company in 1933, and worked at the plant for 39 ½ years before retiring in 1972. In those later years he knowledgeably worked servicing the entire wringer washer in the Service Department. He was a charter member of Local 1327 and past president of the Credit Union. His grandfather was an early stockholder in the company. Wilbur was honorably discharged from the Wisconsin National Guard. He was a member and past Master of the Ripon Masonic Lodge, past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Past Noble Grand of Ripon Odd Fellows Lodge. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, lay leader, and chairman of the Trustees of the Ripon Methodist Church. He was elected First Ward Alderman and served for 8 years, and had been elected President of the Council for 4 years. Wilbur enjoyed stamp and antique collecting, gardening, and keeping busy fixing things.

He is survived by three brothers-in-law, Boyd M. (Dorothy) Smith of Lakeland, FL, Lloyd C. (Jessie) Smith of Harviell, MO, and William Smith of Westland, MI; and one sister-in-law, Maude (Jap) Cochran of Poplar Bluff, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, George William Perry and Florence Ethel (Wiser) Perry, and his wife, Marye who passed away on April 9, 1994.

Friends may call Friday from 5 until 7 pm at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, and an Eastern Star service will be held at 7 pm followed by a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Wilbur Perry will be held on Saturday at 10 am at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, with the Reverend Howard Ott officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. A memorial has been established.
